Welcome to our first ever network especially for Design & Technologies Technicians!

Technicians in Victorian schools carry out a wide range of tasks - from maintaining equipment and preparing materials to ordering resources and supporting student with their projects. They need to be confident across a range of materials and processes, including hand tools, plant and machinery, textiles equipment and emerging technologies such as CAD, 3D printing and laser cutting.

We know many technicians are the only person in that role at a school, and the opportunity to share ideas and discuss issues with their peers is limited. Therefore DATTA Vic is establishing a regular forum where techs can come together online as a community of practice.

We're delighted that for this first meeting, we'll start with a presentation by Di Christensen, the Arts & Technology technician at Wurun Senior Campus. Di will share her own practice, with a particular focus on her role in setting up a new facility and managing the 3D printing and laser cutting equipment.

There there will be time to discuss common issues for techs, including OH&S and risk management, upskilling opportunities and supporting classroom management.
