Privacy Policy

Privacy Statement

Design & Technology Teachers’ Association Victoria (DATTA Vic) is a professional association for teachers of Technologies education - these teachers form our membership base. DATTA Vic is committed to safeguarding privacy of personal information of members and non-members. This document outlines what types of personal information DATTA Vic collects and what we do with this information in relation to the delivery of DATTA Vic services and in performing DATTA Vic functions.

This privacy policy outlines how DATTA Vic collects, uses, discloses and handles personal information. In addition this policy explains how you can access and correct the information we hold or complain about a suspected privacy breach.

What is personal information?

DATTA Vic collects any personally identifiable information about individuals, schools and other organisations when such individuals or school and other organisational representatives (also referred to as individuals or users) specifically provide such information on a voluntary basis. Examples of personal information include an individual’s name, workplace, contact numbers and email addresses. It can include financial information relating to transactions such as credit card and bank account details. In addition it can include information such as subjects taught.

How is information gathered?

Personal information is provided to DATTA Vic on a voluntary basis. It may be gathered from membership admission, the registration process for subscriptions or services, the delivery of events and other services, in connection with submissions, student competitions (or similar) entries, community postings (e.g.forums), and in connection to suggestions and transactions.

Personal information may be gathered in a range of ways including via email, over the phone, in person, on hard copy forms, through written correspondence and through forums (face to face or online).

Further, notwithstanding any opt out of promotional information by the user, we reserve the right to contact a subscriber regarding account status, changes to the subscriber agreement and other matters relevant to the underlying service and/or the information collected.

The purposes for which we collect, hold, use and disclose personal information

DATTA Vic needs personal information to enable it to perform its core functions including admission to membership, membership administration, the ongoing delivery of professional learning and events, advocacy, the distribution of resources and access to DATTA Vic websites.

Access to the database containing personal information is restricted to DATTA Vic staff members with direct responsibility for customer service or management of the website. Authorised staff members are not permitted to pass on information about members to others, without the express permission of the Executive Director or Executive Officer.

DATTA Vic obligations

Personally identifiable information on individual users will not be sold or otherwise transferred to unaffiliated third parties without the approval of the user at the time of collection. At such points of collection, the user will have the opportunity to indicate whether he or she would like to "opt out" of receiving promotional and/or marketing information about other products, services and offerings and/or any third parties.

Disclosing personal information to third parties

Personal information will not be disclosed to third parties except, when appropriate, to financial institutions for payment processing, or with consent to suppliers.

Updating privacy data

Upon request, we will use reasonable efforts to allow users to update/correct personal information previously submitted which the user states is erroneous to the extent such activities will not compromise privacy or security interests. Also, upon a user's request, we will use commercially reasonable efforts to functionally delete the user and his or her personal information from its database; however, it may be impossible to delete a user's entry without some residual information because of backups and records of deletions.

Securing personal information

DATTA Vic takes reasonable steps to store personal information securely and appropriately including in electronic data bases, email contact lists and in paper files held in storage facilities and the like. DATTA Vic takes reasonable steps to ensure this information is not misused or accessed without authority. In addition DATTA Vic has ICT security such as anti virus software and login password protection to secure personal information.

Retaining personal data

Personal data provided by you will only be kept for a time relevant to the purpose for which the data is provided and as long as required by applicable laws.

Advertisers or partner promotional campaigns

DATTA Vic reserve the right to perform statistical analyses of user behaviour and characteristics in order to measure interest in and use of the various areas of our website and to inform advertisers or official partners and sponsors of such information as it relates to the number of users that have been exposed to or clicked on their website promotion campaigns. In so doing however, no individual’s personal information will be provided. For our annual conferences, delegate information will be passed on to trade exhibitors and sponsors providing the appropriate permission is given.

Policy change

DATTA Vic reserves the right to change this policy at any time by notifying users of the existence of a new privacy statement. This statement and the policies outlined herein are not intended to and do not create any contractual or other legal rights in or on behalf of any party.

Opting out

Upon request, DATTA Vic will allow any user to "opt out" of further promotional contacts at any time. DATTA Vic give users the following options for removing their information from our database to not receive future communications or receive our service. You can:

    • send an email to admin@datta.vic.edu.au
    • call the following telephone number: +61 3 9349 1538
    • unsubscribe from our mailing list using a link provided on each mail out
Making a complaint about a suspected privacy breach

If you wish to make a complaint about how DATTA Vic has collected or handled your personal information you may contact the Executive Officer who will endeavour to resolve your complaint within 5 working days. Ph +61 3 9349 5809

If not resolved to your satisfaction DATTA Vic will ask you to put your complaint in writing and:

    1. Provide your full name and contact information
    2. Include the date of the complaint
    3. Outline the nature of the breach (i.e. how you believe your privacy has been breached)
    4. Outline when the breach is thought to have occurred.
    5. Indicate how you would like your complaint resolved.
    6. Address the complaint to the Executive Officer DATTA Vic, Abbotsford Convent, Room C1.22, Convent Building, 1 St Heliers Street, Abbotsford, VIC, 3067, who, in most cases, and after investigation, will respond within 30 days indicating whether it is considered a breach occurred and what action, if any, will be taken to resolve the breach.
