Part of our DATTA Vic Up-skilling Beginners' Masterclasses, this professional learning workshop is for teachers who have little/no experience with robotics and are hoping to establish their own robotics program or grow an existing one to engage more students.

This session will be led by Travis Burroughs, Director of Yarra Ranges Tech School. Travis is a renowned STEM educator and a leader in the field of robotics education. He'll be joined by his YRTS colleague Matt Pattison.

In this fun, hands-on day, participants will:

  • Learn about the simple Thymio robot and how to program to follow lines and avoid walls. This simple robot is a great introduction to robotics and exposes students to code and robotics in a fast and efficient way.
  • Be introduced to VEX V5, an advanced robotics platform that you can structure a robotics course or club around. You'll gain skills to get started, but also an overview of some of the more advanced sensor and programming features to help you plan to grow your program in the future

Following this class, participants will have gained new skills and confidence in robotics and coding, and understand how they can be used to engage students in the D&T classroom. Out of field teachers who are delivering the D&T curriculum will find this session particularly useful.
