Laser Cutters are fantastic tools to have in the Design & Technologies classroom. Students can create their designs in a vector drawing package, send them to the machine via a printer driver and the laser system does the rest. Plus they are versatile and can be used with a wide range of materials, including wood, acrylic and fabric.
But these machines are a big investment for a school, so at this Online Teach Meet, we've invited two experienced teachers to share everything you need to know about laser cutters! They'll discuss their knowledge of suppliers, costs, installation, OH&S issues and maintenance, and share some of the classroom projects - in wood, plastic, textiles and in Systems Engineering - that they've delivered using their laser cutters.
Felicity McNamara is the Product Design & Technology Leading Teacher at Carey Baptist Grammar
Anthony Gasson is the Learning Technologist at Banyule Nillumbik Tech School
