Teacher of the Year

Nominations for our 2017 Design & Technologies Educators of the Year awards are now closed. 

The winners will be announced in February 2018, and will be awarded their prizes at the DATTA Vic conference on the 18th May at Harvester Technical College in Sunshine.

Congratulations to all of our finalists, and thanks for all the amazing work you do in the D&T learning area.


 

We are honoured that our Leadership in Technology Education Award will now be titled The Foster Adem Leadership in Technologies Education Award.

Foster Adem passed away in August 2017. He was Head of Faculty at Trinity Grammar School. In the words of his friend and colleague Peter, Foster was an active DATTA member, bringing a wealth of experience from Industry and many schools...He will be greatly missed.


There are 2 ways for an educator to be entered for these awards:

1. An educator can be nominated. 

2. An educator can apply themselves. 

The award categories are:
  • New to Technologies Teaching
  • Primary Educator of the Year
  • Secondary Educator of the Year
  • The Foster Adem Leadership in Technologies Education Award

Important Information

  • One of the recipients will be nominated for the DATTA Australia Technology Educator of the Year Award.

  • All nominees must be members of DATTA Vic - either individual or through their school.

  • You must provide sound reasons for the nomination/application which address the criteria listed below

 

New to Technologies Teaching

This new award is for recognition of the outstanding contribution to the Technology Learning Area for teachers within their first 3 years of teaching.

Criteria

  • The ability to engage students
  • A sound understanding of the Technologies curriculum
  • Positive contribution to a Technology team (school or regional)

And also at least one of the following:

  • Involvement in setting up or assisting in new programs
  • Promoting the Technologies area in the school and/or wider community
  • Creative approach to technology teaching and curriculum planning
  • Effective use of a range of digital technologies in the Technology classroom

Primary Educator of the Year

This award is for excellence in the teaching of Design and Technologies education in a primary school environment.

This could for instance, be awarded for:

  • Excellence in the development of a new Technologies program
  • Innovation in the teaching of Technology education
  • Continuing excellence in the teaching and promotion of Technologies education in a primary setting.

Criteria

  • The teacher is a classroom teacher (includes specialist teachers).
  • The program developed/delivered falls within the curriculum guidelines
  • The teacher displays excellence in his/her approach to the teaching of Technologies education in line with current pedagogy.

Secondary Educator of the Year

This award is for excellence in the teaching of Design and Technology and/or Systems Engineering education in a secondary school environment.

This could for instance, be awarded for:

  • Excellence in the development of a new Technologies program
  • Innovation in the teaching of Technologies education
  • Excellence in integrating Technologies education
  • Continuing excellence in the teaching and promotion of Technologies education in a secondary setting.

Criteria

  • The teacher is a classroom teacher
  • The program developed/delivered falls within the curriculum guidelines
  • The teacher displays excellence in his/her approach to the teaching of Technologies education in line with current pedagogy.

The Foster Adem Leadership in Technologies Education Award

This award is for excellence in the person’s contribution to Design and Technologies and/or Systems Engineering education, either for ongoing work or for a special contribution during the past year.

This could for instance, be awarded for:

  • Excellence in the development of a Technologies education support materials
  • Excellence in the promotion of Technologies education

  • Excellence in the delivery of Technologies education professional development

  • Excellence in liaising with other organisations about Technologies education

  • Contributions to Technologies education that have assisted teachers in schools 

Criteria

  • The educator has contributed the Technologies education outside their normal teaching/work
  • The educator exhibits an outstanding or unique understanding of Technologies education that has allowed others to develop their skills/understanding.
  • The educator exhibits sound pedagogical skills and/or an ability to get alongside teachers of Technologies and progress the study of Technologies education in the state or national setting.
  • The educator exhibits leadership in the field of Technologies education.

Recipients of Awards will receive:

  • $100
  • a certificate

Awards are presented at the DATTA Vic Annual Conference in May each year.

The winners will be listed in the DATTA Vic News.

A profile of each of the winners including a photo will be included in TECHNOTES.
